Customer Reviews about Clarkstown Pediatrics

  • As a kid I couldn't live without Clarkstown Pediatrics. In particular Dr. Karasik has been one of the best doctors I have ever seen. He made me feel so much better that he gave me the drive to be a doctor. The medicine wasn't what made me better, it was knowing I was in good hands. He is very cautious and will make absolutely sure he knows what the problem is. I have been to many other doctors but none of them were as caring and helpful as the doctors in Clarkstown Pediatrics and in particular Dr. Jeffrey Karasik. I strongly recommend this practice as I have had a wonderful experience with them.

I used to love coming here, and I used to recommend it to everyone I knew, until this weekend. We received a cold letter stating that we were no longer welcome at the clinic, with no explanation as to why, After multiple phone calls, it turns out that they were upset because when our babies were due for an injection, we asked if the doctor could do it because there were no nurses present. They said that only the nurses could do it, so I said it was fine and proceeded to have what I thought was a nice consultation with the doctor. Many phone calls later, the office staff tells us that the doctors felt "pressured" by us to vaccinate our kids, and that they felt we were dissatisfied with their customer service. We weren't even told the reason why we were ousted until I called and insisted on an answer. Apparently, someone in the office staff then complained to my wife that I insisted on an answer, but I still think that we should know why we're being asked to leave. I'm also upset that the doctor couldn't voice her concerns in person. As it is, I had politely assented to the doctor needing a nurse to administer the shots our babies. It's also worth noting that when the clinic closed due to weather, we received no notice. We and several other patients showed up waiting for treatment, having received no warning. We did ask administration to please give us notice next time, and they were quite rude to my wife.Even one of the doctors whom I politely addressed this issue with concurred that it was not handled well. As an aside, I have often been noted for my calm temperament as a special education teacher in the Bronx. Some of the most difficult children and parents have come forward to tell me that they appreciate my time and patience. I include this detail only to illustrate that I am not a hothead or someone who flies off the handle, yet the cold dismissal that I received would lead to the impression that I'm a difficult patient or troublemaker. In fact, two doctors whom I spoke with at this practice complimented me for being an attentive father, and we have always discussed our daughters' medical issues and my concerns in the past with mutual respect and kindness. I have never been treated more disrespectfully and appallingly by any doctor or practice, and now my two newborn daughters suffer for it. We must scramble to find new care because a March deadline has been imposed upon us. I am still shocked and hurt by this series of events and as someone who works with children, cannot understand why young patients have to suffer just because an issue that could have been addressed calmly and rationally was instead allowed to build up to such a harsh and illogical conclusion. The behavior on display at Clarkstown Pediatrics was shameful. I am still hurt by it.
